Home décor trends change just like seasonal fashion does. We’re seeing more bold new styles coming through in bathroom design, kitchen design and flooring design, so in this blog, we look at the latest tile trends in 2022.
1. Herringbone or Vertical stack in bold jewel-tone colours
Channelling the 60’s and 70’s, glazed hand-made look tile in strong ‘jewel’ colours has come back with a vengeance. Think emerald green, sapphire blue, burnt orange and magenta. We're seeing lots of herringbone layouts as well as vertical stacks in a clean linear pattern. This look is coming into a lot of kitchen splashbacks and feature walls in showers, toilets and entry ways. Check out this recent kitchen splashback design for Signature Homes in green.
2. Mosaic Sheet Tile
The little tiles are back, but unlike classic penny tile from a century ago, the mosaics of 2022 feature a range of colours and textures, like metallic small square tile and lots of geometric shapes. We’ve seen it in entry ways and bathrooms mostly, for areas that don’t require such intensive cleaning (like feature walls rather than shower floors). Check out this recent look with metalic copper mosaic.
3. Textured black in interesting shapes
Kiwis love their black, and black tiled walls in interesting shapes like scallop, honeycomb and spheres are getting more and more popular, especially in statement all-black kitchens. Check out this recent kitchen splashback done for Luke Machett Builders in Morrinsville.
4. Slab tiles that look like concrete
The oversized seamless slab tile look is in, with lots of concrete look tile accented with pastels or timber to make it look sleek and expansive. Check out this bathroom we did for Karl Kampenhout Builders recently.
